Week 5 EOC: Social Networks and Job Hunting

A lot of networking and job hunting can now be done through social networking. “More companies are trying to tap Facebook Inc.'s 750-million-plus user base to find new employees, threatening traditional job boards and competing with LinkedIn Corp., which has dominated the online professional networking arena.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424053111903885604576490763... I think this isn’t a very good think but then again with today's technology it makes it easy and useful. Since a lot of people need to learn how to work the internet and become accustom to it seeing that it is they new way to do things through social networking. You can read in the Market book how it is so easy to be able to do things with the things that are available to us now. “But these days, thanks to modern technology, armed with little more than a video camera, laptop, and a cell phone, anyone can spread the word about products and brand experiences to thousands, even millions, of other consumers.” Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 143 this shows why job hunting and hiring is done through the social networking. Companies can get all of their information out to people on Facebook page, their websites, and put an ad to say they are hiring and others will be able to easily see this and start applying. For example the Sony Company has online applicants for the job hunters on the internet, “Out of 2,000 or more online applicants, Sony picked only 25 brand ambassadors. The ambassadors were given a free camera and other equipment along with lessons on how to use them.” Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 143 this is a new way for job hunting and applying for the jobs on the internet and still staying up to date with the technology. But by us doing this we might lose the original paper and pen professional ways for job hunting and applying.

Week 5 EOC : Me x 3

I tend to be a very cold person so I own a lot of beanies. Since they say all the heat comes from your head, feet, and hands. Most of the time I have to get the beanies with my own money because my parents think they're silly. I bought this care bear beanie at Spencer's and I absolutely love it! There are a few reasons that I bought it. Firstly I really love the color blue, it's my favorite color. Secondly, I've always loved the care bears and just bears in general since I'm a very loving person. My Mother even calls me Sette bears since I love bears.

I always have to buy headphones because I used them so much and one of the ear buds will go out. These headphones say a lot about me for one I love music. I can't go a day without listening to some for of music it's my passion. As I said before blue is my favorite color and most of my favorite things are blue. Also I think this can say show that I'm a very conservative person because with these headphones it's just me and myself. No one else can bother me when my music is on.

This is a hippie hobo sling bag I have recently bought myself two of these. I believe this bag shows that I am I very peaceful person and down to earth. You can see this from the colors of the bag they are earth tone colors. Also all the peace signs on the bag portray this message. Another thing this says about me is I am not really in to designer bags and all those other fancy things. I like to be simple and nice but I am also very cheap when it comes to spending my money.

Week 4 EOC : B to B vs. Consumer Marketing

Business to business marketing compared to consumer marketing is very different depending on what aspects of it you look at. When you sell to businesses you only need to sale to a few big ones. Take GE for example, “In its business markets, rather than selling to large numbers of small buyers, GE sells to a few very large buyers.” Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 158 Because when you are trying to sell a product you want it to be at a big businesses that will bring in the costumers to buy your product. So the business consumer is endorsing your product, “Whereas it might be disappointing when a refrigerator buyer chooses a competing brand, losing a single sale to a large business customer can mean the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars in business.” Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 158, which means if you don’t have that business-to-business marketing advantage not many consumers would buy your products. The big difference in my opinion is that business-to-business marketing is more important! If you don’t market with other businesses you can lose a lot of money, which was explained in the quote before. As to the consumer marketing market you would just lose a little bit of money, which is a lot better then millions of dollars. These two markets are similar in one way though because “At a general level, marketing medical imaging technology or diesel locomotives to business customers is like selling refrigerators to final buyers. It requires a deep-down understanding of customer needs and customer-driven marketing strategies that create superior customer value.”  Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 158 as stated in the quote above either way you are selling your product to someone. Whether it’s to a big business or a regular customer looking for something to put in there home. A sale is a sale

Week 4 BOC : There's An App For That

I've recently designed a new app called “Music Lovers”! With this new app you can find any song, genre, or artist and get background of the song. Doesn’t matter what time period the song may be from, even if the song is 50 years old you will be able to find it. Also with this app you can learn the history of the songs! Like how the composer came up with the lyrics and much more. Were they sitting on a bus or getting ready to sky dive and then the lyrics just came to mind. Another great feature is the genres. Many people don’t know how each genre came about but this app will give you the knowledge you desire. Instead of having to Google all the information about a song you want. It is all bundled up into one app. There is also a plugin that will let you listen to the song with out having to download it. Or you can download it if you would like it just depends on your preferences. But I know me personally I love this new app since I myself am a “Music Lover”. So to all you music lovers out there I hope you enjoy it!

Week 3 EOC: My Demographics

My demographic group is the Millennials (also called Generation Y or the echo boomers). "Born between 1977 and 2000, these children of the baby boomers number 83 million, dwarfing the Gen Xers and larger even than the baby boomer segment. This group includes several age cohorts: tweens (aged 9–12), teens (13–18), and young adults (19–32). With total purchasing power of more than $733 billion, the Millennials make up a huge and attractive market." Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 73 “One thing that all of the Millennials have in common is their utter fluency and comfort with digital technology. They don’t just embrace technology, it’s a way of life.” Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 74 I would have to agree with the details of this demographic group description because technology is a very important part of my life. I wouldn't be posting this blog without it! Everyday I use my cellphone, I will flip out if I don’t have it will me and I’m always on the computer. Plus technology is all around now days since everything is evolving. “According to another study, 77 percent of Millennials frequent social networking sites and 71 percent use instant messaging. “All generations are comfortable with technology, but this is the generation that’s been formed by technology,” says a Yahoo! Executive. For them, “it’s not something separate. It’s just something they do.”” Marketing: An Introduction for Education Management Corporation pg. 74. I would have to agree with this statement because I’m always on a social networking site! It’s just something I can always remember doing and it’s a fun way to chat with my friends. Plus no one wants to be the only person not using the new way to socialize with others. Especially when everyone else is using it.

Week 3 EOC: Making Money for Good

There are many new companies that are starting to have a "Buy one, Give one" policy. Blanket America collection said “When consumers buy from Blanket America, not only are they generating automatic donations, but supporting our larger commitment to ending extreme poverty. For every Blanket America product sold, we make a donation.” http://www.blanketamerica.com/ which is very nice. Not only are you getting a blanket for yourself; you are helping to donate a blanket to someone that may really need it. So they can stay warm and maybe even sleep better at night. Doesn't that sound nice? Blanket America Collection also gives help with other areas. Such as, “In addition to domestic giving, Blanket America has provided disaster relief to Haiti with blanket donations, and created jobs with your demand for our Choose Haiti line of products.” http://www.blanketamerica.com/ being able to help provide jobs is a big deal. Especially after a huge disaster everyone is out of work. By them helping to provide jobs people will be able to get back on their feet again! Maybe they can even help others that need help just like them. “They believe that although charity begins at home, it doesn’t end there. Help make a difference for someone in need by purchasing your linens and other supplies through Blanket America’s one for one program.” http://shopwithmeaning.org/2011/12/blanket-america-one-for-one-blankets-that-warm-your-heart-and-your-neighbor/ So splurging and getting you own things that you want and need you will be able to help many people. I personally think that is very nice. If I were in a situation where I didn’t have certain things I would be very thankful for programs like this. The best part about Blanket America Collection is that you can buy anything and they will provide it someone that needs it. Which means you don’t just have to buy a blanket to help someone out, you can buy anything from them and still help out!

Week 2 EOC: Boston Consulting Group - Video Games

The video game market is at a rapid paste. NY Times recently said “More than 200 million Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 systems were sold worldwide. Sales of portable gaming machines surged as well.“ http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/07/arts/video-games/video-game-retail-sales-decline-despite-new-hits.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0
Although some of these game consoles are making good sales in the market. Some of the other ones would be considered low in market growth rate and relative market share because they aren't wanted as much the other game consoles. The Xbox 360, Wii, hand held games, and computer have been falling in the market since the hot new thing to have; which is a star in our market are mobile devices and tablets. “Instead of firing up her PlayStation or Nintendo Wii, the 27-year-old patent lawyer whips out her iPhone for instant access to her own portable arcade.”
http://www.boston.com/business/innovation/2012/11/01/mobile-apps-upending-video-game-industry/UnPw0t2ZBnyLJ83Iz6uHjK/story.html
It's on the go and you can play it any time while still being connected with everything else. This is much easier than trying to carry a big Xbox 360 or PS3 gaming system around with you. There are going to be some new consoles in the future to hopefully boost their video game market.
You can even ask DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole as he told Forbes. ““New console systems from Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony are expected to help the console segment regain some momentum in the 2014 to 2015 timeframe,” said DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole. “However, the steadiest area of growth is on the PC and mobile side.””
http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngaudiosi/2012/07/18/new-reports-forecasts-global-video-game-industry-will-reach-82-billion-by-2017/
The only problem with these new consoles is that they are a question mark in the video game market. So even it will really depend on how they market and advertise their new products to see how good they will sell. The big cash-cow in the market is the PS3 since they're always coming out with new games and they stay consistent. And everyone one loves something that they can keep up with and seems interesting!

Week 1 EOC: Great Customer Service

I recently experienced great costumer service when I was shopping at the strip in Las Vegas of course. I was on a search for my hippie bag that I love very much! I went to a few places and then I decided to go to Fremont to see the light show. Since I couldn’t seem to find that bag anywhere and I was giving up for the day. This kind of upset me though because that was my mission for the day. Then when I was walking around on Fremont I saw a stand full of hippie everything. I was so happy the lady working that night laughed at me. She asked me what I was looking for and I told her a shoulder hippie bag and there was so many to choose from. Although the bags were expensive I didn’t really mind since I wanted it. But of course the people that work at the store booths try to get you to buy more than one thing. So I was having some difficulties because the lady showed me a nice Bob Marley t-shirt she had but I wasn’t going to spend 50 dollars for a bag and a t-shirt. That just seemed like too much for me since I’m a very cheap person. Then the lady told me since she could tell I really wanted it she would give me the t-shirt and the bag for 30 dollars. That was 20 dollars less so the deal was done then. She told me she didn’t mind giving me some money off because she knew I would be back. And she was right about that so she gave me her number and the day she works so I could get some more decent deals from her. I must say that was the best costumer experience ever!

Week 1 EOC : My Voice

I am interested in owning or being a part of a music production company. When I was little my sister would always sing and I would get all of my toy pots and pans and pretend they were drums. Almost like every kid right? But I didn’t plan on going into music when I was little of course. I thought I was going to be going to be a corner and working on dead bodies to help solve murders. Then I wanted to be a lawyer because I liked to argue with people. Once I looked at everything up to 11th grade. I realized ever since fourth grade I've been involved in some kind of musical activity. I've participated in band, chorus, and musical theater. Learned how to read music, played the baritone, trombone, and keyboard. In chorus I was an alto and got some of the group solos and with my church choir I got to lead a lot of songs. Also my senior year in high school I participated in broadcasting. I loved picking out the music and mixing all the different sounds together. I’ve also been writing my own songs and poems since 9th grade.  In the past 4 month I’ve had two of my poems published with the new up and coming poets. So I know if my poems can have their debut then my music will one day too.
